Kevin Matthews (Group Marketing Manager) is pleased to report that Jenrick, and all the companies within Simon Holdings Plc, are ensuring that all new stationery orders are printed on FSC or recycled paper.
Kevin provided the following article for the website and blog to explain the initiative in greater detail:
“Before I go on to explain about our adoption of FSC and recycled paper, I firstly need to explain our approach to paper usage in general.
First and foremost, I would like to clarify that we avoid using paper, whenever possible, within the Group. When we do use paper, we recycle as much as possible – and by this, I mean that we print on both sides (especially for internal documents) as well as re-using spare paper for note taking. When we have used the paper as much as possible we then ensure it goes into the recycling box.
So, now back to the FSC explanation!
FSC stands for the ‘Forest Stewardship Council.’ The FSC is an international, non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world’s forests. It was founded in 1993 in response to public concern about deforestation and a demand for a trustworthy wood-labelling scheme.
FSC UK is a registered charity. It is supported by NGO’s including WWF, Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth.
FSC has developed a system of forest certification and product labelling that allows consumers to identify wood and wood-based products from well managed forests. Requirements include compliance with national legislation, respect for indigenous people’s rights, ecological integrity, economic viability and the need for adequate planning and monitoring of operations.
In simple terms, it has a quality system that ensures the wood used for your paper can be traced back, with 100% accuracy to the forest it was taken from.
Only printing companies that work to the very highest standards can apply to become an FSC accredited print company – and they subsequently receive periodic audits to ensure they operate to these high standards (in a similar fashion to ISO accreditation).
The stationery orders for Jenrick are printed by a Wimbledon based company – Impress Print Limited, a company that is also ISO accredited. Impress has been established since 1989 and their commitment to FSC is just one of their environmental initiatives. For more details see: www.impressprint.net/environment
In addition, two sister companies of Jenrick (within the Simon Holdings Plc Group) both possess full FSC accreditation. Printing Partners and The Envelope Works (the largest independent envelope printing group in Europe) became FSC accredited at the beginning of 2008.
I hope that provides an insight into the benefits of FSC paper and why Jenrick has adopted it.
Please come back to this area of the blog and website for additional features on Jenrick’s approach to CSR.”
