Staff arrived into work early, dressed in Pink to support this worthy cause.

The day started with a charity breakfast, which raised £60 inclusive of personal donations from all team members, even those who were unable to make it to the breakfast.

Sally (Accounts) organised a cake sale throughout the day, selling the cakes for a pound each in aid of Breast Cancer UK. The cake sale raised £60.

‘I was overhelmed by the success of the cake sale, raising £60 in just 6 hours’ she added.

Jenrick decided to hold their ‘Wear It Pink’ day early as a number of staff are away from the office on Friday 31st October, the official Wear It Pink 2009 day.

Thank you to everyone that supported ‘Wear It Pink’

The following envelope market update has been kindly provided by Mark Farrimond, Managing Director of The Envelope Works, a leading Envelope Supplier and Envelope Manufacturer for the UK.

“Although everyone involved within the printed envelope market is well aware that overall volumes, especially related to large print runs, are reducing, we have noticed one particular market trend that is on the increase, with reference to the business enquiries we receive within The Envelope Works.

Requests for ‘specialist envelopes’ have been on a steady increase for the last 18months.

By specialist envelopes, we are referring to envelopes that require such attributes as non-standard window positions, or multi-windows, non-standards shapes or materials or even special purpose envelopes, such as CD wallets.

My assumption is that this increase in requests is following the trend we have witnessed within direct marketing campaigns within recent years, whereby there has been much greater emphasis placed upon creativity and personalisation.

Agencies are realising that they need to be even more creative if their campaigns are going to stand out within a very cluttered marketplace, and importantly provide their clients with a return on their investment.

This trend bodes well for envelope suppliers and manufacturers such as ourselves and also shows that the direct mail industry will continue to be an essential sales channel in the future, albeit as part of a multi-channel marketing communication framework.”

Further information:

If you are interested in finding an experienced envelope company that can supply and manufacturer specialist envelopes for your marketing campaigns, please contact The Envelope Works or visit our website for more information at www.envelopeworks.com, or call (01422) 383 287.

Well, it’s over. The big day has come and gone and I’ve finally had the opportunity to complete the London Marathon again after a 12 year gap.

This time around was much more painful than I remember from before, although rose-tinted glasses maybe playing a part in my selective memory.

Yet, importantly, I have fulfilled my goal and achieved my Jenrick Experience!

I have to admit that crossing that finish line was an extremely emotional experience. You don’t realise how much mental energy it takes to complete the marathon until you’ve reached the end, especially as this time around it was not plain sailing by any stretch of the imagination!

Let me rewind a little and go back to the starting line . . .

There I was at the start coughing and spluttering with a stinking cold (which I had developed since Thursday), piling Fisherman’s Friends into my mouth just to try to breath - I am serious too!

Managed to then plod away for ten miles at 10 min mile pace, which was fine considering the cold . . . but then my knee started getting tender (an injury which occurred three weeks ago and nearly forced me to pull out completely).

Had to change my plan of attack from that point on just to make certain I could complete the marathon and only allow myself to run for 150 - 200 paces and then walk for 50 - 70 paces, and to also ensure I didn’t over stress it and cause any permanent damage.

Had to keep up that tidy routine for the next 13 miles – or to put it is real terms, about 3 hours!

Then in the last few miles I felt more confident that my knee was holding so I stepped up the pace a bit again.

Finished in a slow 5 hours 20 something, but I had no choice than to do it that way.

Crazy thing was, my legs still felt quite fresh at the end, so I am happy that the training I did was on the right lines.

What was particularly satisfying was that we raised over £2,500 for Children in Crisis, so much of which was due to the generous support of all those within the Simon Holdings Group, which I and eternally grateful for.

I definitely feel like I’ve got unfinished business here now, so watch this space again once my knee has had time to heal!

Thank you again and my Just Giving page is still live for anyone still wishing to make a donation - http://www.justgiving.com/kevinmatthews

Incidentally, this was final marathon which will be sponsored by Flora, so I was particularly pleased to have been part of it.

Picture:

The picture features Lucy Porter (who was an inspiration and very kindly organised everything) of Children in Crisis, presenting my with my finishers medal - thanks for everything Lucy!

The Envelope Works is currently building an on-going relationship with Irish Bowling Star Barry Browne.

Barry has been a leading international bowler for over 11 years now and has over 60 caps, between indoor and outdoor events, winning a number of Irish titles and 2 British titles.

Barry is just about to leave for the the Atlantic Rim Games, being held in South Africa, where he is competing in both the singles and pairs competitions against the very best bowlers in the world.

He added;

“I’ve received my draws for the competition and in the singles I’m in with Scotland, Guernsey, Spain, Cyprus, Wales, Brazil and Portugal and in the pairs it’s Jersey, Israel, Spain, Guernsey, Namibia, USA and Brazil.

The top 4 qualify for the 1/4 finals against the top 4 from the other section and then it’s straight knock out.

Looking at the draw I’m aiming for at least the quarter final of both, but we’ll see how it goes as there are some excellent bowlers out there.”

The tournament is being staged in The Wanderers Complex, Johannesburg from 3rd May to 16th May. Each team consists of 5 players and they contest 2 of the 4 disciplines, which are singles, pairs, triples and rinks.

Barry has been selected to represent Ireland in singles and pairs.

“I’m really pleased that Mark Farrimond and The Envelope Works have shown such an interest in myself and the sport I compete in. We are constantly trying to raise the profile of bowling and this type of relationship only helps to make the sport more visible throughout the UK and beyond.”

Best Companies, the organisation that is behind the Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For and the 3 Star Best Companies Accreditation, is one of the most experienced workplace consultancy companies within the UK.

Due to the high scores that Jenrick has displayed in ‘Corporate Wellbeing’ (Jenrick obtained the 3rd highest score from all the entrants in 2009 doing equally well in 2008 and 2007) Best Companies wanted to interview our company in person to find out why our approach to corporate wellbeing has been so successful.

Ian Jameson, Wellbeing Consultant within Best Companies, visited Jenrick’s Head Office to interview Kevin Matthews, Jenrick’s Marketing Manager, on April 16th 2009.

“Jenrick’s scores for Wellbeing are not just high, they are exceptional. I work with a substantial number of companies across the UK and I can honestly say that very few even come close to where Jenrick is.

When we see a company performing so well it is our duty to understand more about them and why they are successful. This knowledge then forms part of essential case study material which in turn is communicated to other companies that wish to improve their company’s approach to Corporate Wellbeing.” commented Ian.
